What are you doing
in a day’s time that might be
weakening your immune system?

Viruses, bacteria and many other microorganisms are everywhere. As a chiropractor, I was required to take Microbiology in chiropractic college. My professor was extremely proud of his extensive slide collection and was quite entertained by our gasps each time we were introduced to another one of our little neighbors.

After meeting my new microscopic neighbors I felt like I was always being watched and never alone. I changed the kitchen dishrag multiple times a day and I was obsessively cleaning and wiping things down all the time.

My new obsession with germs even caused a few nightmares, but over time I allowed them to live in peace in the germ neighborhoods that surrounded me.

These little critters had always been there…
now I was totally aware of their presence.

Focusing on a strong foundation of wellness keeps health in place no matter what germ or microorganism you might be sharing space with.

Vitamin C Loses…Sugar Wins!

Regular or excessive sugar weakens the immune system no matter what form.Let the competition begin. Imagine sugar and your immune system have come to an arena and they are prepared to compete.

Sugar’s gladiator is in the form called ‘Glucose’ and your immune system’s gladiator for this particular battle is ‘Vitamin C’. They are fighting to gain access to every cell in your body. Who is going to win?

Glucose and Vitamin C are in direct competition to enter your cells via the receptor sites on the cell wall. This is a critical pathway for Vitamin C to strengthen and build your immune system. Without Vitamin C’s access to your cells your overall wellness and immune system function will deplete.

Vitamin C is made directly from glucose. Biochemically, Glucose and Vitamin C are almost identical.

(CBS News – April 1, 2012) If you are what you eat, then what does it mean that the average American consumes 130  pounds of sugar a year? Sanjay Gupta reports on new research showing that beyond weight gain, sugar can take a serious toll on your health, worsening conditions ranging from heart disease to cancer. Some physicians go so far as to call sugar a toxin.

Sugar is everywhere in our diets and in processed foods. Sugar is welcomed, expected and days don’t feel complete without sugar for some.

You may know someone who consumes a daily latte, cola, candy bar, ice cream, cookie or favorite pastry…or maybe an assortment of each. (HealthyTimes Blog shows a great visual for how much sugar in popular drinks).

Excessive amounts of sugar in your bloodstream challenges, stresses and weakens the immune system.  With a high concentration of glucose taking up all of the receptor sites of your cells Vitamin C cannot gain access.

The immune system protects the body from potentially harmful substances (“antigens”) such as microorganisms, toxins, cancer cells, and foreign blood or tissues from another person or species. Antigens are destroyed by the immune response, which includes production of antibodies (molecules that attach to the antigen and make it more susceptible to destruction) and sensitized lymphocytes (specialized white blood cells that recognize and destroy particular antigens).

Which came first? The chicken or the egg? Which came first, a lack of Vitamin C or a toxic amount of sugar? Sugar starts knocking Vitamin C out of the way. Your body’s ability to eat up (phagocytose) all of the antigens (foreign substances) is radically compromised. Your body turns into a breeding ground or party central for a wide array of infections and disease processes with one of the most life threatening being cancer.

Pre-cancerous cells or hicups in your cell production are happening everyday. Is your immune system powerful enough to cleanup all of these cellular mistakes?

“The phagocytic cells of the immune system require high amounts of Vitamin C to work properly. A blood sugar value of 120 reduces the phagocytic index seventy-five percent. One saltine cracker will take the blood sugar to go over 100 and in many people it will cause the blood sugar to go over 150 for a variety of reasons.” James L. Chestnut, B.Ed., MSc., D.C.

Are you someone or do you have a child, family member or friend who seems to have frequent illnesses? Your immune system is vital for protecting you and your wellness against a wide array of diseases and infections.

There is no such thing as a ‘normal cold’ and you don’t get sick just because ‘something is going around’.  If the latter were true everyone would be sick when the latest cold or flu starts showing up.

You can choose to strengthen your immune system and expand your wellness today. Choose to greatly reduce or eliminate sugar from your diet.

Reducing or eliminating sugar is critical in creating a healthy strong immune system. Making this new choose will start increasing your current wellness by greatly reducing the toxic effects of excessive sugar and insulin. Make sure you are consuming enough Vitamin C in a day’s time to support and strengthen your immune system. Choose a high quality whole food supplement to assure the very best and most bio-available (usable in your body) Vitamin C possible. Isolated Vitamin C processes inefficiently compared to Vitamin C found in whole foods and whole food supplements.
